The Ruins of the Old Synagogue
In the center of the city, the old ruins of a synagogue were uncovered. It is an important element that sheds light into the city’s past and a testimony of the city’s Hebrew community.
Monastry of 40 Saints
The monastery of 40 Saints has a very symbolic name. This monastery gave its name to the city, because Saranda in Greek means 40. The monatery is located near the pass on top of a hill opposite the castle of Lekursi.


Butrinti is an city and an archeological site in Saranda, Albania. The city is located on top of a hill overlooking the Vivari Channel, some 14 kilometres south of Saranda and close to the Butrinti lake and the Greek border. Inhabited since prehistoric times, Butrinti was the site of an Epirote city and a Roman colony.
Castle of Lëkursi is a XVI century structure which was built in the old village of Lëkursi. It is an important tourist attraction site nowadays. The place has been converted into a luxurious and attractive bar and restaurant that attracts countless visitors and holiday-makers.
The monastery of Saint Nicholas (known locally also as the Monatery of Mesopotami) is a well-known one in the whole region. The monastery is located along the road to Gjirokastra near Bistrica. The objects carves in stone slabs which embellish the stone walls are very special.
